RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Masters Research– Contribution of fishery harbours and sea outfalls for microplastic contamination in the coastal belt of Galle district, Southern Sri Lanka.

Supervised by- Dr. Ayomi Witharana, Dr. Kalpani Marasinghe

Identify possible differences in microplastic concentration between coastal sediments of fishery harbors, selected sea outfalls and coastal sediments of selected beaches of Galle district. Investigation of microplastic concentration in coastal sediments of fishery harbors, selected sea outfalls and nearby beaches of Galle district. Model the special distribution map for microplastic concentration in Galle district. Identify main polymer types of microplastic in coastal areas of the Galle district.

Undergraduate Research- Habitat preferences and distribution modelling of the endangered frog pseudophilautus zorro

Supervised by- Dr. Kanishka Ukuwala, Dr. Rajnish Vandercone

Assess the habitat preferences (vegetation type, leaf litter thickness, percentage of canopy cover) of Pseudophilatus zorro. Model the fundamental ecological niche of Pseudophilatus zorro to unravel potential areas of occupancy. Estimate the extent of occurrence and area of occupancy of Pseudophilatus zorro with new locality data. Estimate the extent of occurrence and area of occupancy of Pseudophilatus zorro with predicted data from niche modeling.
